TLC Caregivers has an
ongoing need for qualified individuals to fill our
many job openings. If
you are someone who is warm and dependable with a
genuine love for
children, becoming a nanny may be the perfect career
choice for you!
What is a
"nanny"?
The International Nanny Association defines a nanny
as:
A child care specialist who works in a family's home
caring for the children.
A nanny may work full time or part time and may live in
or live
out. The nanny is an important part of the family
support system and
serves as a loving, nurturing and trustworthy companion
to the children.
A nanny tends to have special child care skills and a
deep love of
children. A nanny offers the family convenient, high
quality care to
meet the child's physical, emotional, social and
intellectual needs.
What are the
qualifications needed to become a nanny?
All nanny candidates must be at least 18 years of age
with child care experience
and their own car. All applicants must be able to pass a
thorough background
check. Applicants must be able to meet the physical
demands of the job
such as lifting children, playing outside, sitting on
the floor and climbing
stairs. Infant/child CPR training and certification
is required. A minimum of a high school diploma is
strongly preferred
by our clients. Most all positions (except PT, temp and
summer) will require a
one year commitment.
Where are
the positions that TLC has to offer?
TLC has many employment opportunities in child care
through out the KC Metro area. We have openings in
both Johnson and Jackson Counties. We can also
assist nannies in finding jobs in other major cites such
as San
Francisco, Boston, Seattle and many, many
more!
What duties do
nannies perform?
Nannies do most everything that pertains to the
children. This includes not
only attending to the children's basic needs, but also
working with them
on their developmental skills. Families also require
that nannies clean
up after the children, do laundry, keep the children's
rooms clean and
drive the children to/from activities. Some nannies that
are called "house
managers" do all the cleaning, but only if all the
children are school
age and she is alone in the home all day.
How much do
nannies earn?
Full time nannies in the Kansas City area are earning
between $400.00 and $600.00
per week. Part time nannies earn an hourly rate of $8.00-$12.00 per
hour. This figure is determined by the nanny's
experience and the hours
/duties involved in a particular position. Salaries for
nannies are
NOT determined by the number of charges (children) a
nanny is responsible
for. Salaries are negotiated between the nanny and the
family.
Do nannies
receive benefits such as paid vacations and medical
insurance?
In addition to a competitive salary, nannies placed by
TLC receive paid holidays
and paid vacations. Some families offer paid sick time
as well. Many
families are now willing to offer health benefits.
How
are taxes handled?
All
nannies are employees of the families they work for and
the family is responsible
for withholding taxes on their nanny.
Will TLC charge
me a fee for placing me with a family?
TLC does not charge applicants a fee for placing them.
All fees are paid by
the families that hire us to secure a nanny for them.
I am not
available to work full time due to other commitments.
Are their any other positions that I can apply for?
Yes! TLC has a very active temporary sitting service and
we need sitters for
all shifts. Day, evening and weekend work is available.
The hourly rate
is $8.00-$10.00 per hour and you choose your own hours.
This position
is perfect for students and professionals that can't
really commit
to a "regular" part time job.
How do I apply?
TLC requires a "face to face" interview with
all applicants. We take applications
by appointment only. Please call our office at
913-649-0807 or
1-800-707-4852 to set an appointment to apply. The
average appointment
takes approx. two hours to complete application and
interview. If you are
calling from out of the area, we can mail an
application to you
initially but we will need to set a time for you to
come to Kansas City
for an interview.
How long will
it take before I know if I am accepted?
The typical turn around time on an application is 5 to
14 days.
Once I am
accepted, what is the next step?
You will be put in touch with families who are
interested in candidates with your particular
qualifications. You will be given the opportunity to
meet with various families until you have found the
family that is the best "fit" for you. TLC
will provide ongoing support to you through this process
as well as after you have been placed.
